Definición de la FAO:

Gestión Integrada de Plagas (GIP) significa la consideración cuidadosa de todas las técnicas de control de plagas disponibles y la posterior integración de medidas apropiadas que desalienten el desarrollo de poblaciones de plagas y mantengan los plaguicidas y otras intervenciones a niveles económicamente justificados, y reduzcan o minimicen los riesgos para la salud humana y el medio ambiente. GIP enfatiza el crecimiento de un cultivo saludable, con la menor alteración posible de los agroecosistemas, y fomenta los mecanismos naturales de control de plagas.
